Rugadh Bríd that ar 439 AD taobh amuigh de Dhún Dealgáin, Contae Lú. Ba duine de Chlann Fotharta í agus tugadh an t-ainm sin don áit dá bharr. Dubhthach ab ainm dá hathair agus Taoiseach Págánach a bhí ann. Broicseach ab ainm dá máthair agus, go bhfios dúinn, Críostaíoch a bhí inti. Clann shaibhir a bhí ann agus thuig Bríd é seo. D'oibhrigh Bríd go crua gach lá agus bhí an-trua aici do na boicht. Is minic a thug sí a hearraí féin dóibh. Ní raibh a tuismitheoirí sásta léi. Tháinig Naomh Pádraig go hÉirinn sa bhliain 432 A.D. agus bhí sé fós ag dul timpeall na tíre le Briathar Dé agus Bríd ag eirí aníos. Bhí Bríd an-tógtha leis an Reiligiún seo, reiligiún a máthair. D'aontaigh sí leis an dea-scéal agus baistíodh í. Chaith sí a cuid ama ag guí agus ag cabhrú leis na boicht. Ní raibh a clann sásta agus bhí said ag iarraidh go bpósfadh sí Taoiseach saibhir. Bhí saol eile roimpi, afách, saol mar Bhean Rialta. Chaith sí tamall i gclochar. Ansin, bhunaigh sí a clochar féin. Tháinig go leor mná chun bheith lei sa chlochar sin mar bhí clú agus cáil bainte amach acu tar éis tamaill. Bhí a clochar suite san áit a bhfuil Baile Chill Dara anois. Fuair Bríd bás thart ar 524A.D. agus tá sí curtha in Árdeaglais an Dúin, Dún Phádraig, Contae an Dúin, in éineacht le Naomh Pádraig agus Naomh Colmcille. Tá go leor scéalta faoi Bhríd ann.
Bridget was born about the year 439 AD outside Dundalk in County Louth. She was a member of the Faughart Sept and they gave the place its name. Her father, Dubhthach, was a pagan Chieftain but her mother, Broicseach, we believe, was a Christian. Thus Bridget was born into a wealthy family and she understood this. She was a hard worker and conscious always of the poor. Often she gave away her own possessions and this did not please her parents. Saint Patrick came to Ireland to preach Christianity in the year 432 A.D. and was still in active ministry when Bridget was growing up. She was very impressed with this new religion and was baptised. Bridget spent a lot of time in prayer and in helping the poor. Her parents hoped that she would marry a rich Chieftain but this was not Bridget's plan. She wanted the religious life and entered a convent to became a nun. Later, she founded her own convent and attracted a lot of young women to join her community. Her convent, in present day Kildare town, gained fame far and wide. Bridget died about the year 524 A.D. and is buried in Down Cathedral, Downpatrick, County Down, along with Saint Patrick and Saint Colmcille. Many stories are told of Bridget.
