Sa bhliain 2013 thosaíomar ag leanúint an chláir PAWS ón gcumann Sábháilteacht Uisce na hÉireann. Thosaigh Rang 1 (Muinteoir Marian) ag leanúint an chláir seo anuraidh.
Tá dhá chuid i gceist leis an gclár seo - Land PAWS agus PAWS. Leantar Land PAWS sa rang. Múintear ceachtanna bunaithe ar shábháilteacht uisce in áiteanna áirithe ar thalamh - ag an linn snámha, cois farraige, ar an bhfeirm, sa bhaile. Tá trí theastas le baint amach - Land PAWS 1, Land PAWS 2 agus Land PAWS 3. Ag an deireadh de gach aonad oibre is é/í an múinteoir ranga a chuireann scrúdú béil ar na daltaí. Leantar an clár PAWS ag na ceachtanna snámha sa linn snámha. Déantar forbairt ar an méid atá foghlamtha ag na daltaí faoi shábháilteacht uisce sa seomra ranga. Tá an chuid is mó de na ceachtanna seo bunaithe san uisce. Tá seacht teastas le baint amach - PAWS 1 suas go PAWS 7. Ag an deireadh de gach aonad oibre is é/í an múinteoir snámha sa linn snámha a chuireann scrúdú béil agus scrúdú praicticiúil ar na daltaí. |
In 2013, our school made a decision to follow the PAWS (Primary Aquatics Water Safety) programme from the Irish Water Safety as part of our school's aquatics programme. Last year Muinteoir Marian's first class were the first in our school to participate in this programme.
There are two parts to this programme - Land PAWS and PAWS. Land PAWS is taught in the classroom. Lessons are taught based on water safety on land in areas such as at the swimming pool, at the seaside, on the farm, at home. There are 3 certificates to be achieved - Land PAWS 1, Land PAWS 2 and Land PAWS 3. At the end of each unit of work, the class teacher will quiz the children orally on the lesson content. PAWS is taught at the swimming pool by the swimming instructors. It aims to develop the children's knowledge and skills learned in Land PAWS and primarily takes place in water. There are 7 certificates to be achieved in PAWS - ranging from PAWS 1 up to PAWS 7. At the end of each unit of work, the swimming instructors at the pool quiz the children orally on the lesson content and also the children must take part in a practical examination. |
